Info[]
John Mellencamp is a popular country rocker whose "heartland rock" sound made him very successful. Also went by John Cougar for awhile. His song Small Town is about a town in which he spent his childhood, although that town has grown notably since then. He admitted Jack and Diane was hard to record. Most of his albums have gone at least gold, including compilations. Numerous hit singles, with Hurts So Good and Jack and Diane going gold in the US. Numerous other hit albums.

Parody[]
Graphic adventure game Space Quest IV features a location known as Radio Shock, a parody of electronics store Radio Shack (the in-game store is also an electronics store). Radio Shack filed suit, and later releases renamed the store Hz. So Good, a parody of Mellencamp's hit Hurts So Good as well as the Hertz measurement of frequency.
Jack and Diane is referenced in an episode of adult-oriented cartoon series The Simpsons, sung by Mellencamp.
